An Encyclopedia of everyday loss

Suzanne Baumann werke sammlung (works collection)  Museum of Art , Aarau and Kartause Ittigen,Museum of Art, Canton Thurgau, 1992, Switzerland

....On the first view one is temted to connect these pictures with Surrealism. But Suzanne Baumann’s  inventions, pictures are not , respectively not only nourished from the unconscious.
Rather the differencest categories and sources are put together.Conscious as the unconscious, the private as well as the political, emotions and calcule, ecological and marvelous.
What arises about it, is at a time a small picture out of the universe  and a large universe of pictures. In distinction to the utopias of the modernity, this universality does not serve any
absolute, does’ent want to overcome the time, nor to retain the history nor lead towards completation. Neither is it illusion, the mythe of self-realisation which here is implemented, If these pictures have somthing to do with life and the survival, then it is because they transfere the possible, a space, and create a surface of projection for the incredibles.
Extract from the introduction by Angelika Stepken, Berlin at the opening of an exhibition by Suzanne Baumann at the art-union in Gütersloh Germany 1992
